Recently, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council released the 2026 list of dynamically‑adjusted degree‑granting programs for revocation and establishment. SDFMU has successfully obtained approval to add the master’s program for the first‑level discipline of Bioengineering.
In recent years, aligning closely with major national strategies and the construction needs of urgently‑needed disciplines in Shandong Province, SDFMU has continuously strengthened the development of supervisory teams and talent training in sub‑fields related to bioengineering. New disciplinary growth drivers have been fostered through the interdisciplinary integration of medicine and engineering, laying a solid foundation for cultivating talents with combined medical‑engineering expertise. The newly‑approved degree program represents our concrete progress in implementing the reform for adjustment and optimization of discipline and specialty setup, as well as a landmark achievement in optimizing our disciplinary layout and strengthening connotation‑driven development.
Following this addition, our degree‑granting system has been further improved. SDFMU now offers 3 doctoral programs, including 2 first‑level discipline doctoral programs and 1 professional doctoral degree program; and 20 master’s programs, consisting of 9 first‑level discipline master’s programs and 11 professional master’s degree programs. Doctoral and master’s programs cover four major discipline categories: Medicine, Science, Engineering and Management. The disciplinary structure and layout are further refined, and the scope of talent training expanded, providing more robust disciplinary support for interdisciplinary talent cultivation and high‑quality regional economic and social development.
As a knowledge‑intensive, cutting‑edge interdisciplinary subject, Bioengineering closely responds to the national bio‑economy strategy and Shandong Province’s “Top‑Ten Industries” initiative, boasting broad development prospects and huge application potential. Drawing on existing scientific research platforms and advantageous disciplinary directions, the bioengineering discipline has built a well‑structured academic team with outstanding innovation capacity, and accumulated solid research foundations in pharmaceutical bioengineering, genetic engineering, synthetic bioengineering and material‑based bioengineering.
Going forward, leveraging the newly‑established bioengineering degree program, SDFMU will closely cater to the demands of Shandong’s pharmaceutical industry, deepen integration between industry and education, and highlight the distinctive features of medicine‑engineering cross‑disciplinarity. It will strive to cultivate high‑level talents with innovative thinking and practical capabilities, contribute expertise to the growth of regional biomedical industrial clusters, and deliver interdisciplinary leading talents equipped with both medical insights and engineering know‑how for the Healthy China Initiative.
