The Second Belt‑and‑Road International Training Program on Endovascular Therapy for Aortic Diseases, hosted by Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, kicked off in Jinan on 31 August. A total of 21 trainees from Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Russia, Viet Nam and China’s Taiwan Region took part in the programme. Xin Tao, Vice‑President of SDFMU, attended the opening ceremony.
Xin Tao extended warm congratulations on the inauguration of the training Program and offered sincere welcome to participating physicians from home and abroad. He gave a comprehensive overview of the university’s achievements in recent years in talent development, discipline building, healthcare services and research innovation. He noted that this training program should serve as an opportunity to build a high‑level, professional and international academic exchange platform. It will foster knowledge‑sharing, technical learning and experience exchange among vascular‑surgery professionals worldwide, deepen practical cooperation between Chinese and foreign medical practitioners, and facilitate in‑depth integration and high‑quality development of relevant disciplines.
Speeches were delivered at the opening ceremony by leading officials, experts from Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to SDFMU, and trainee representatives. Running for one week, the training Program focuses on themes including endovascular repair and open surgery for complex aortic diseases, as well as management of postoperative endoleaks and infections. It delivers systematic, specialised training through a diverse mix of lectures, case discussions, operative observation, live surgical demonstrations and simulator‑based hands‑on practice. Parallel to the training, the Belt‑and‑Road International Vascular Forum will be convened, inviting leading domestic and international specialists to share cutting‑edge technologies, academic findings and clinical experience in vascular surgery.
This training program represents a concrete measure taken by the hospital to respond actively to the Belt‑and‑Road Initiative and advance international medical exchange and cooperation. It also provides an important platform for medical peers worldwide to learn from one another, build friendships and strengthen collaboration. Going forward, the hospital will further expand channels for international exchanges. Leveraging its strengths in disciplinary platforms, clinical expertise and talent pool, it will keep promoting international medical cooperation and contribute to safeguarding public health in countries and regions along the Belt‑and‑Road routes.
