U.S. News & World Report has recently released its 2026-2027 Best Global Universities Subject Rankings. A total of 16 disciplines from Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences have made the global list, placing the institution 126th among Chinese mainland universities. Four disciplines--Immunology, Engineering, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and Public, Environmental and Occupational Health--are newly added to the ranking roster.
Over the past five years, the number of ranked disciplines of the University & Academy has grown year-on-year with steady improvements in global standings, marking dual progress in comprehensive disciplinary strength and international reputation.
The U.S. News Best Global Universities Subject Rankings cover 51 subject areas across 2,250 higher-education institutions worldwide. Rankings are calculated based on 13 metrics, including global research reputation, regional research reputation, number of publications, number of books, number of conference papers, and normalized citation impact.
All 16 ranked disciplines have lifted their global positions. Five disciplines--Pharmacology and Toxicology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Oncology, Cell Biology, and Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging--have secured spots within the global top 200.
The full list of ranked disciplines includes Clinical Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Oncology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Public, Environmental and Occupational Health, Biology and Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, and Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
In recent years, the University & Academy has taken meeting national strategic needs as the fundamental guideline for disciplinary development. Aligned with the goals of the “Double First-Class” initiative, it advances integrated planning for education, science and technology, and talent development. In response to the Healthy China Initiative and Healthy Shandong drive, the institution keeps refining its disciplinary layout.
