The China’s Best Disciplines Ranking is based on an indicator system that includes five categories: talent training, platform projects, awards for achievements, academic publications, and high-end talents, with 18 specific indicators and over 70 measurement variables. The ranking uses the classification of disciplines outlined in the “Directory of Graduate Education Disciplines and Programs (2022)” issued by the State Council’s Academic Degrees Committee and the Ministry of Education. Within each first-level discipline, the ranking includes all universities that have authorized academic graduate degree programs in that discipline as of the end of 2023, covering both first-level and second-level disciplines. The ranking includes universities that are in the top 50% of each discipline. The 2024 ranking covers 94 first-level disciplines and involves 486 universities with 4,924 degree programs.
